  • Taxis within Windsor:

For getting around within Windsor, Vets Cab is a local, unionized service and you can download their app for easy access and ride tracking.

    Arriving from Detroit:

The following travel information will help ensure a smooth journey from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to Windsor with proper planning. The most important tip is to pre-book a cab since drivers need to have a passport to cross the border. Ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft are unreliable for over-the-border trips, though you can attempt to use them if necessary.

For a reliable taxi service, consider calling Metro Cab Detroit at 734-997-6500 (Metro Cab Booking) or Checker Detroit at 313-963-7000 (Checker Detroit Border Service).

If you prefer public transit, the Tunnel Bus is an affordable option at $10 USD or CAD cash. It takes passengers from Downtown Detroit to Downtown Windsor (Tunnel Bus Info). You would need to take a taxi or ride share from the airport to the tunnel bus station in Detroit, and then cross via the bus. This takes a bit longer, but it’s a good option if you need to use uber/lyft.

If traveling by car, there are two main border crossings:

    1. Ambassador Bridge – About 24 minutes from the airport. The toll is $9 USD, and the bridge is just 1 minute from Windsor Faculty of Law, and approx. 5-10 min drive from downtown.

    2. Detroit-Windsor Tunnel – About 27 minutes from the airport. The toll is $8.25 USD, the tunnel exit is downtown and approx. 5-10 minutes drive from Windsor Faculty of Law.
